It was obvious right from the start, that she would be a force to reckon with. As sound as a bell, with the depth of chest that we like, and movement that couldn't be faulted.
No matter how you "plonked" her down on the ground, everything just "went" into the right place!
Lara won her BIS All Breeds at the tender age of 10 months. Heather always found her a "bit of a trial" to show. Lara had a mind of her own, and if she wasn't in the mood, then Heather had a hard job, to persuade her otherwise. (Shades of her mother Mary!!)

Once she had achieved her Grand Championship, she came back to me
(and semi-retirement!), which Lara said was what she had planned
right from the start!!!

Lara came out of retirement (at Heather's insistence!) for the Basenji Club of New South Wales Specialty in October.
She won Best Interstate Bred (with Heather handling), and then went back in for Owner/Breeder/Handler (with me handling).
She showed as she usually does for me -"this is my mother - let's be a slob!!!"
Needless to say, we didn't win!! She is now retired - AGAIN!!

STOP PRESS

  February 2009   -
Unfortunately my beautiful Lara will never be a mother.

This year she came in season in January.
After successful matings to Ch Tamsala Skulduggery - Lara continued to bleed,
when she should have been nearly out of season.

Blood tests revealed an infection
 - she spent 24 hours on a drip - then 10 days on antibiotics.

For 4 days
after the antibiotics - Lara felt better.

BUT she went downhill rapidly.

An ultrasound revealed pyometra.

Lara was spayed to save her life.
It was a close call.
